At the invitation of Susan Bernofsky, I taught a semester-long translation workshop in the MFA program in writing at Columbia in the spring of 2018. I had the privilege of working with a remarkable group of graduate students whose linguistic and artistic engagements were expansive and deeply intelligent. Languages in the group included Farsi, Latin, Spanish, French, and Chinese, and spanned all genres, from ancient poetry to screenplays to contemporary fiction.
